Home Opening Remarks Calling the PPV Hands Down

Amazing what two weeks can do to a National Championship picture, isn't it? Just when I was hoping for Hell to open up and swallow the Rose Bowl whole the Gators and Canes were playing, the Gators up and lose to Tennessee.

In the Swamp.

First time since I was one year of age.

But that was just the icing on the bowl shake-up cake. Before it was the Gators and Canes I were loathing, it looked like either Nebraska or Oklahoma were going to try and make things interesting in Pasadena. Just when I (and a whole lot of people that know a whole lot more than me) thought everything was set for a battle in the Big 12 championship game to see who would play for the Roses, they BOTH lose on consecutive days. So once again a "new dynasty" is revealed for what it truly is: a good team with a good coach who will be in the hunt just like all the other upper echelon teams. First it was the Volunteers. They beat Florida State to get their first National Championship. After years of playing in the Citrus Bowl, UT was here to stay. The next year they were getting punked out by Kansas State in the "weren't these guys good" bowl. Now it's Oklahoma. Stoops turned around Sooner Nation and brought back the crystal football. Now if he's playing Washington in the Culligan Holiday Bowl, he'll be thanking his lucky stars.

Point is, the days of the dynasties are over. If you've got two championships under your belt, then you're doing well. If you've got one, then you're still trying to prove something; and if you don't have one yet, then just wait for the right coach and the right players and hope that when you do get the hardware, your players are all Sophomores and your coach just got a five year extension. And even if all that does come to pass, don't make your reservations at the start of the season, or even if there are two weeks to play and you're in the drivers seat with only Oklahoma State to play, right Coach Stoops?
